The Methodist Thrift Shop celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2023.

It is a place where people can get what they need at affordable prices. The shop’s reputation for quality used clothing and household goods means that most anyone looking for a bargain - including hidden treasures and collectibles - will enjoy shopping here.

What’s more, it offers people in Cortez and surrounding communities a place to donate used items knowing that they will land in the hands of people who need and appreciate them.

The Invitation

We invite you to take a tour of the Methodist Thrift Shop. You can even sign up for a couple of hours as one of our guest volunteers and we’ll give you a $15 gift certificate for any store merchandise. Discover if being a volunteer at the thrift store is for you!

“I like shopping at the Methodist Thrift Shop because I find good deals at great prices. And the staff and volunteers are always so nice. That’s why I started volunteering here. I feel like I’m doing something worthwhile instead of wasting my time in front of the television.”

– Mary Theilen, frequent shopper and volunteer

 Volunteer

The thrift shop is run almost entirely by volunteers from First UMC

and others in the community. For volunteers, it offers a place

where they can connect with people who

enjoy serving and making a difference.

The thrift shop is always looking for volunteers to

assist with the store operations and enjoy the camaraderie of

its volunteers. Most volunteers work two to four hours a week,

but can work as many hours as they want to commit. What’s

more, volunteers receive a $15 discount each month on any

merchandise in the store.
